SUP: 2016 BUSPA SUP Surf Series Finals – The Crowning of Champions
BSUPA have been in contact with more info regarding this year’s Watergate bay stand up paddle surfing event. Over to Richard Marsh with the info.
Over the weekend of October 1-2 Watergate Bay, located on Cornwall’s rugged north shore, will play host to the third and final round of this year’s BSUPA SUP Surf Series.
In the overall Open Men’s Division 19 year old Aaron Rowe from Jersey is currently placed in poll position. Having won both previous BSUPA series events at Putsborough and Gwithian, with a clear lead on the other competitors, and based on his current form, Aaron is looking favorite to win – not only the event at Watergate Bay, but also be crowned 2016 BSUPA Surf Series Champion.
Chasing Aaron in second is 15 year old Blue Ewer from Devon and in third is 17 year old Ollie Laddiman from North Wales. Less than a 100 points separates these two.
In the battle for the Open Women’s is current overall leader Marie Buchanan, from Devon, and Nikki Graham from Cleveland. 200 points seperates the girls so it is all to play for. Last year’s Watergate Bay winner Tina Beresford from Newquay is currently placed third and a win from here has the potential to put her in contention for the overall title too.
All is set for an exciting series final, with nothing 100% done and dusted until the sound of the final judge’s hooter goes. A fantastic culmination to a season of competition then!
Winners of both Open Men and Women categories will be eligible for selection for Team GB at the 2017 ISA World Stand Up Paddleboard Championships.
BSUPA would like to express their thanks to all competitors, organizers and supporters who have contributed to the success of this year’s BSUPA SUP Surf Series.
