Pretty in pink – Fatstick Pink Panther 10ft review

Fatstick’s Pink Panther 10ft may not be to everyone’s taste – the name (recently changed from Hunk Magnet) and pink flowery design maybe put some of you more masculine paddlers off. And yet, this would mean missing out on what’s actually a super fun shape to ride. It’s pretty obvious which gender Fatstick are marketing this particular stick towards but there’s no reason all comers shouldn’t get involved – just depends on how Metro-sexual you Alpha Males are feeling… Fatstick Pink Panther 10ft 1Fatstick Pink Panther 10ft 2

A stable platform gives good stability for most with ample 31” width delivering a composed and easy ride. Bigger boned individuals may find it a little wobbly at first but after a period of adjustment you’ll be sweeping away to your heart’s content.

We tried the Fatstick Pink Panther 10ft on both flat water and in waves and have to admit its performance sways a little more towards surf – a manoeuvrable and carvey hull allowing for some fun swooping turns. The Pink Panther can cut back relatively sharply and falls somewhere between short and longboard performance, therefore suiting a range of rider styles.

Catching waves with ease it drops in and bends off the bottom progressively heading back up to the lip with a decent amount of speed. Once at the apex knocking one off the froth is both rewarding and fun. The Pink Panther’s 10kg weight ensures a degree of momentum is kept for speeding down the line and making sections is pretty easy.

On flat water the Pink Panther tracks well but won’t cover ground as efficiently as other more dedicated flat water sticks. It’ll still do the job, however, and cruising inlets, harbours and along the coast is perfectly plausible.

Construction is typical Fatstick, the 10ft taking a degree of abuse without picking up dings and holes. Plus the price is extremely appealing.

Conclusion

Fatstick’s Pink Panther 10ft is a versatile stick that sways slightly more to paddle surfing – although easily accommodates those who prefer a sweep on the flat. Applicable for bigger riders wanting a manoeuvrable stick for mellow waves or light weights looking for an all round platform, the Pink Panther ticks a variety of boxes. The colour and name may put some off but you can’t deny this is a nifty little package that’s both affordable and versatile.
