Bournemouth Outrigger Canoe Club – from strength to strength

One thing stand up paddle boarding has encouraged is a wider view in thinking. Standing tall, swinging a blade, seems to open people’s minds and with outrigger synergies glaringly obvious it’s no surprise that sit down paddling is also gaining popularity in the UK.

Bournemouth Outrigger Canoe ceremony

A case in point is Bournemouth Outrigger Canoe Club’s latest floating addition. The guys from BOCC had a fab weekend breaking in their new stead in traditional Polynesian tradition.

‘A beautiful ceremony to bless Tahe Ma’ue was carried out by the BOCC ladies crew on Saturday morning. Having brought water to the canoe, a few words were said and respects were paid. During proceedings a pair of Kingfishers came out to sit with the ladies. this was a good omen as Kingfishers are a long time symbol of peace. Greek mythology states the Kingfisher can ward of storms. They are seen as new warmth, prosperity and love about to unfold.
